Activist
As a narrative activist, Terri Hawkes has enjoyed success as a playwright, screenwriter, producer, actor, director, academic and activist - creating stories that entertain, illuminate, and inspire transformation. Her productions generally champion women's, girls', and/or mothers' journeys of resilience and growth, using humour as a lens through which to highlight social issues.

Current Projects
Acting, Writing, Directing, Producing, Teaching
Writing: Writing: Terri has enjoyed her 2024/2025 stint in the writers’ room of Lady Ada’s Secret Society (LASS), creating havoc in the school community as the students spar with their STEM-averse Headmistress Hein (Marble Kids/Blue Ant/YouTube). She has a few original television pilots in development - including Fantasy Revenge Inc. - Sydney Women's International Film Festival award for Best TV Pilot Screenplay, an honour hot on the heels of 2nd place in NYC's Stareable Festival's Best Original TV Pilot Pitch Competition. She was recently placed on the short list for the Female Eye Film Festival’s Pitch Competition for The Divine Divas (hour-long dramedy). Terri’s academic and activist work has been published a number of times with Demeter Press.
Acting:
Terri currently stars as the technology-thwarting headmistress "Mrs. Hein" in the comedic web-series Lady Ada's Secret Society - LA Webfest Award for Best Supporting Actress. Season One can be found on Marble Kids/ YouTube. Watch for updates on Season Two - for which Terri was also in the Writers’ Room - planned for release late 2025! Also check out Terri's turn in the web-series turned Netflix animated hit, Bee & PuppyCat as the beloved comedic and very pregnant pro-wrestler/antagonist "Toast”. In the world of feature film, Terri just completed principal photography on What We Have Left (S.N.A.P. Films and Rusty Halo Productions) in Northern Ontario with an outstanding Canadian cast (Sept. 2025).
Teaching:
As co-founder of the program Art4You (and Art4Youth), Terri continues her work with women and youth in under-resourced areas – supporting their access to the arts, mentoring and teaching writing, storytelling and film-making. Terri holds an MFA in Playwriting (UCLA’s Theatre, Film and Television) and an MA in Gender, Feminist and Women's Studies (York University). She is often invited to speak as a guest lecturer at public and private educational institutions.
